Apple Picking at Walters Fruit Ranch in Green Bluff

Discovering Walters Fruit Ranch

Our first visit to Walters Fruit Ranch in Green Bluff, Washington, near Spokane, was in the spring. The highlight was their peach iced tea, made fresh from peaches grown in their own orchard. It was incredibly delicious and left a memorable impression. During that trip, we sampled several peach varieties, carefully choosing our favorites before purchasing some to take home. While exploring, I also noticed the ranch’s extensive apple orchard and made a mental note to return in the fall for apple picking.

Green Bluff: A Family Destination

Green Bluff is known for its collection of small farms, many offering unique “u-pick” opportunities and seasonal activities for families. Beyond peaches, visitors can pick cherries, berries, sunflowers, pumpkins, apples, and more, depending on the season. Some farms sell fresh cider, while others provide snacks and lunch options, making it an ideal outing for all ages.

Apple Picking Season

When autumn arrived, we found ourselves in Spokane on an early fall weekend and decided to embrace apple picking season. I am particularly fond of apples—especially those that are fresh, crisp, and juicy. Though I wasn’t certain which varieties would be available, I was eager to bring home a box of crunchy apples.

Arriving at the Orchard

Upon arrival at Walters Fruit Ranch, we paid a small entry fee and received directions to the different apple varieties scattered throughout the orchard. To avoid the crowds and capture some photos, we got there early. An employee noticed our interest in photography and kindly suggested a couple of particularly picturesque areas, which turned out to be excellent tips.

Picking Apples and Enjoying the Day

Once our photos were taken, we set about picking apples for ourselves. It didn’t take long to fill a box, which we purchased and loaded into the car. By then, it was lunchtime. Several food booths were set up, offering a variety of options, but the apple cider doughnuts stood out as the highlight—they were absolutely delicious.

The orchard was lively, filled with kids and families enjoying the festive atmosphere. We spent some time simply relaxing, soaking in the fun and friendly environment. It was a fabulous fall day!
